Cupid has become a premier brand offering Internet dating services. With revenues around €6.5m last year through sites like serncontrer.com and ulla.com, the company recently began its geographic expansion efforts. The company recently acquired another AGL (Assistance Genie Logiciel) for €3.7m, gaining access to a promising market in France.

Cupid

The company was founded in 1986. Under the AGL umbrella are dating sites like amour.com, ulla.com, and serencontrer.com. AGL primarily trades in France and operates out of Paris. With a current staff of 25, the Cupid brand will be better positioned to expand into international markets. It initially started out delivering its services through phone services, but began delivering its content via the Internet with the introduction of the web.

Based out of Edinburgh, Cupid has a presence in 39 countries in more than 34 million members. Its sites cater to traditional dating, niche dating and casual dating. The company earned £7m in 2011 before amortization, depreciation, interest and taxation. By purchasing AGL, which includes amour.com, it has become one of the largest online dating businesses in France. Cupid started out on AIM in June 2010 at 60p per share and skyrocketed to 260p in June 2011.

With the acquisition of AGL, the company will now be the largest French online dating business. “The AGL business is a highly complementary addition to our current French portfolio, allowing us to become one of the largest French online dating businesses,” said Cupid Chief Executive Bill Dobbie.
