Many dating relationships don’t last long? It’s often the nature of dating. While we all are intent on finding our number one love and soul mate the odds aren’t that great when we first begin dating. You will probably have to kiss a lot of toads before one of them becomes Prince Charming. Until your Prince morphs from toad to royalty, what’s the best way to just meet and get to know different people and then move on?

It’s much harder to break off a relationship once you’ve jumped in head and all. Often, relationships that aren’t going to make it will only last 3 months or less. It’s a fact and you will have to face it. So here are some ideas to help you determine where it’s going and face it gracefully.

1. Be honest. “I would like to know you better, let’s have a hot chocolate or a cup of coffee.”

2. If you are getting to know someone choose an activity that promotes knowing that person. Like dinner or an activity where you can have time to talk during the date.

3. Go to places where your new friend enjoys spending time. The baseball field to watch a game, the local hangout to get a burger, the paintball pit. You can learn a lot about someone doing these things.

4. Meet the friends. Get to know who he hangs out with and what kind of people they are, likeable?

5. Don’t over step romantic boundaries. (Unfortunately, no jumping into bed after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd date just because you can.)

6. Take it slow. Don’t make long- term commitments for activities months away.

7. Determine if it looks like you have a real romantic interest or a great friendship.

8. Be honest. As soon as you know, romantic or not, talk it over with your new found friend or lover.

This doesn’t mean you can have only one or the other. Friendship or romantic relationship. The possibility exists for both. There it can get a little more complicated.
